It's an old story that I read years ago. Here's what i remember (it's bits and pieces):

- takes place in modern day
- Sesshomaru has his own company, rich, etc.
- has an adopted daughter Rin who is still around 4-6 yrs old. He was walking through a poor neighborhood/street in his (white) expensive suit. saw a child sitting in a dark corner (across the street?), who looked up at him and gave him a smile. Rin didnt say anything but her eyes+smile didnt have a look of pity or sadness but something (i forget) that moved sesshomaru to decide to take her home + adopt.
- it was mentioned that Sesshoumaru was dating kagura, a spoiled rich girl who wore really tight/sorta slutty clothing. Sess noticed that rin started wearing clothing like kaguras when they were dating and noticed that rin withdrew more into herself (she still doesnt talk) --> one day sess comes home early from work and saw kagura slap rin --> sess dumps kagura
- Shippou is a gifted kid, orphaned and living at a dorm for gifted children. he has a sponsor, which is sesshoumaru but he doesnt know that. Kagome wants to adopt shippou but is young and dont really have the means... (i think)
- Rin might be also going to shippous school. (not sure)
- sango is an apothecary or at least has her own aromatherapy shop.
- (I think) Kaede lives in kagome's building and baby sit's rin (<-- not sure of this fact)
- (at a park scene) sess spots kagome, he notices that she wears light make up which enhances her natural beauty and she is tastefully dressed in clothing that shows off her curves but isnt slutty/flashy/gaudy ...

and thats all i remember.

This sounds like an old one that I am looking for as well.

Let me know if these points don't fit with yours.

- Kagome is working to find a cure for a child disease that causes them to be albino

- One chapter Kagome comes to Sesshoumaru during a rain storm

- latest chapter she was close to finding the answer and shippo was to meet his sponsor.

- I think she was also going to school still.

Hope this adds help to anyone who recognized it.

but definitely on the point of shippo meeting his sponsor and that sponsor is sesshoumaru.

I think I found it. Let me know if this sounds like it. Its one I have been looking for.
