Sharks poop fish. (Or what's left of them.)
One of the first talking movies was the Jazz Singer (1927) starring Al Jolson -- who in a not so startling moment for the time, sang "Mammy" whilst in black-face. Also, the movie credited for its innovative camera techniques and its narrative achievements is the equally racist Birth of a Nation (1915) -- it was the nation's first blockbuster, I kid you not. And in a rare, non-racist moment, Walt Disney created one of the very first talking cartoon complete with music -- Steamboat Willie(1928). YAY! MOVIE HISTORY!
Vincent VanGogh did, in fact, cut the lower lobe of his ear off, however it was not done for the love of a woman. He cut it off in a panic after a conflict with his friend Gauguin (VanGogh had threatened him with a razor blade in public earlier that day). He wrapped the severed lobe in tissue paper and gave it to a prostitute at a local brothel, instructing her to "keep this object carefully". Not doubt after he left, she threw the damned thing away... not that we know. History books are fuzzy on this detail. I mean, I bet that severed ear would be some kind of sick prized artifact. But who would really like a wrinkly, smelly half ear?
