Chapter 1: Problems With Life
Well that was interesting...since when were bears such a fluffy light blue color?
"Kagome..."
They were all just dancing around...with something lacy around their middles...
"Kagome."
And Inuyasha was there too...and his sword was spray-painted blue and red. Huh.
Her nose scrunched up at the sight.
"Kagome Higurashi, for god's sake, will you wake up!"
She groaned.
Never mind...blue bears were fine...absolutely perfect...
There was a heavy sigh.
"I warn you, I'll have Buyo do it."
Her eyes snapped open in answer to find her twenty pound cat hovering above her face.
Her eyes widened as she gave a screech of alarm.
"EYA! Mama, don't SCARE me like that! Buyo, you too!" The cat meowed happily as her mother put him down and he instantly rubbed against her legs, still covered by the pink blanket. Smiling, her mother picked him up, another meow being squeezed from the overweight animal.
"Honestly Kagome...how are you ever going to pass school if you oversleep all the time?" Her mother asked as Kagome sighed and ripped the blankets off, placing her bare feet on the floor. She almost immediately wished she hadn't, gritting her teeth at how cold it was. Her mother laughed at her expression and turned to exit her room.
"Breakfast is waiting for you on the table." She called to her over her shoulder as the door closed. Nodding halfheartedly, even though she was already gone, she sighed again and pulled a thick furry rug at the foot of her bed with her toes until she could step on that instead of the cold wooden floor and gave a groan of relief once the fuzzy material was within reach.
'Another day in the present time.' She thought grabbing her hairbrush off of her dresser and beginning to brush her hair as she hopped quickly across the floor to her closet.
Just as her alarm clock went off.
"Damn it!"
Grumbling crankily under her breath, she hopped back across the floor to turn it off but upon reaching it instead turned it up louder and knocked it off the table. The shrill object fell with a clunking cry behind her bed. She continued to grumble as she leaned over to grab the offending object but stopped when she saw a glimmer coming from the other side from where it had fallen.
'The jewel shards.' She thought grabbing them quickly as she picked up the alarm clock and turned it off. Sighing in relief she placed it back in its spot and rolled the small vile of glowing pink crystals in her palm.
'They must have fallen when I knocked my alarm clock off...good thing I found them.' She thought as she put them down, gingerly stepping over to the closet to get her school uniform. Quickly getting it on, she pulled on her socks while standing and then slipped on her shoes. Glancing once over her shoulder at the small vile, she quickly left her room and ran down the stairs, grabbing her breakfast and eating it even as she walked out of the house, grabbing her backpack on the way.
"Kagome! Your homework!"
'Great...I forgot to do it.' Yeah...today was going to be a bad day. Very, very, very bad. Running back, she gave her mother the half eaten fish and vegetables and grabbed the undone report, stuffing it messily into her backpack.
"Kagome! Come on already, we'll be late!"
"Coming Eri!" She yelled zipping up her bag and running down the stairs to catch up with her friends.
'Hello life...'

"When does school end again?"
They shrugged.
"Ok...I'll rephrase the question...when do we get to stop going to that god-awful place?"
Yuka looked at Ayumi who shrugged again.
Sighing forlornly Kagome put her head in her hands.
"I'm gonna fail!" She wailed despairingly into her cheeseburger and fries.
"Oh come on Kagome, its not so bad!" Eri said patting her on the back.
"Yea! Finals are only in a week - then...oh, wait a minute, no those are mid-terms..."
Ayumi cringed as Kagome moaned, burying her hands into her long black hair.
Yuka offering her some ice cream and she took it glumly, stuffing a large spoonful into her mouth, and chocking when it gave her a brain freeze.
"Well at least you don't have to do summer school..." Eri said comfortingly.
Kagome chocked again making her friends all look at each other in horror.
"Are you serious? Kagome, we're seniors!"
Kagome pushed the ice cream away and wailed again, drawing the attention of a few other customers. Eri glared at them and they instantly looked away.
There was silence for a few moments as everyone coddled their distraught friend.
"Oh, hey Kagome! Isn't your birthday coming up?" Yuka asked suddenly with a hesitant smile.
Kagome looked up with teary eyes in surprise. Ayumi chimed in.
"Yeah! The 23rd right? That's only a week off!"
Kagome put her head down in her hands again.
"I can't do anything...I'm with Inuyasha."
Eri gasped making her freeze, cursing herself for mentioning the name.
"So how is he anyways? Last we heard he two timed you with that Kikyo girl!"
Kagome began to sob and Eri hit Yuka who was the speaker.
"Hey! Why'd you say that?!"
"Yeah Yuka, can't you see she has enough problems!"
Yuka put her hands up in defense, warding away the other girls. Kagome drew their attention away from her when she spoke.
"I'm failing Science...have a C in Math, and am a point above not being able to pass English!"
"Yeah but your acing History!"
Kagome snorted painfully at that and coughed.
'I think I just inhaled a fry...'
"Wouldn't you know it?!" She said bitterly as she glared down at her innocent cheeseburger. Faintly she wondered why she was a human and not a cow. A stupid, lazy cow that just ate grass, did absolutely nothing, and then got slaughtered for hamburgers.
'Wait...'
She turned green.
"Kagome are you okay?"
She shuddered in response, fighting off the nausea.
'Well...maybe not the hamburger part...'
"We could help you study..." Yuka said tentatively.
Eri threw her hands in the air in aggravation.
"You dolts, she needs to get herself a few guys and go dancing!"
Kagome turned green again.
"No."
"Oh come on! What ever happened to the wild-child part of you?"
Kagome looked down at her untouched burger and pushed it towards Yuka who took it and began munching on it.
'There's a thought...last time I went clubbing was when I was a sophomore, and some reincarnation of Koga tried to maul me!' She thought with a grimace.
"It fell ill and is recovering somewhere in a coma." Kagome said sourly as she stood and grabbed her bag. Her three friends looked at each other and stood themselves.
"No, no it's fine. I'll walk home myself..."
"But Kagome, it's snowing again!" Yuka said with a frown.
"Yeah, and its cold!"
Eri glared at Ayumi.
"You idiot, of course it's cold! Its winter!"
Ayumi gave her a searing look.
"Not in other places!"
Kagome looked back and forth between them and slowly began walking backwards, towards the door.
"Like where?"
"America!"
"You dummy! America's cold in the winter!"
"Uh uh!"
"Is so!"
"Hey! Kagome what do you think? Kagome?" Yuka asked, looking around and not seeing the forth member of their party. Eri growled and began marching towards the doors before Yuka grabbed her and held her back.
"Let her go! She has to think about things!"
Eri glared at her but backed off.
"Fine...but she better not be like this tomorrow!" The others nodded, even as they cleaned up their table and left.

The wind bit at her bare legs and she shivered. Stupid school! Did they want her to freeze? Slapping her legs to try and warm them, she hurried on faster for her home and breathed a chilly sigh of relief when she saw the stairs leading to the shrine through the gusty snow.
"Idiot."
Screaming in surprise, she whipped to the side, slamming her schoolbag across the speakers head. Too late she saw the red material through the thick white snow. There was a yell of outrage and surprise, and then she saw a silver head poke up from the snowy ground. She smiled nervously as she realized who it was.
"Oh...hi Inuyasha." The said person jumped to his feet, glaring murderously at her.
"You stupid dumbass! What were you thinking, smacking me like that?!"
She grimaced and took a step back.
"I'm sorry, but you surprised me!"
"Surprised you! I'm dressed in red!"
She giggled at his words despite her embarrassment.
Inuyasha had a point...
"Sorry..." He grunted and stepped in front of her.
"Just shut up about it and hold onto me." She nodded thankfully and let him lift her into his arms. In moments they were bounding up the stairs, her body snuggled into his warm one.
"And besides. What are you doing dressed like that? You'll freeze!"
Kagome looked up at him.
"That's what I said! But my school won't change the uniform!" He shrugged and put her down outside her front door, waiting for her to open it.
"Fine. But you're coming back! We're not done with those shards!"
She groaned.
'Yea...so this is why I can't have a party with my friends?' She sighed, and began to sneeze.
"Great! And I get a real cold for once!"
"Did someone say "cold"?"
She groaned as her grandfather came out of a room to look at her.
'Oh boy...'
