Beautiful Breakdown by I heart Sesshomaru

A New School Year

The golden rays of the newly risen sun hit Kagome in the face, causing her to stir from a deep sleep. She opened her eyes to reveal gray pupils. The house was quiet, it's residents still off in dreamland. Kagome blinked a couple of times and stretched her arms above her head before gazing at the clock.

6:44 a.m.

She let out a groan and shoved her head under her pillow.

'It's way too early to be awake.' She thought.

But she didn't have enough time to even close her eyes before her alarm blasted. She let out a shriek and jumped, causing her to fall out of bed.

"Ouch." Kagome groaned and rubbed her now sore rear end.

She untangled herself from the blankets and glared daggers at the plastic contraction.

"Alright I'm up!" she mumbled before hitting the clock off the bedside table. It fell to the floor with a soft 'clunk' before going silent.

Kagome rubbed her eyes and grabbed onto the bed for support as she stood up. Well, she was up now... so much for her sleeping in today.

'Wait... why am I up this early?' she thought to herself before her mother came into the room.

"Oh good, you're up. Don't want to be late for your first day of school." She said with a smile.

"What?" Kagome asked unsure of what she had just heard.

"Today is the first day of school. Did you forget?" her mother asked.

"School? Oh no! I forgot!" Kagome yelled before rushing out of her room and ran towards the bathroom.

Just as she shut the door she heard banging on the other side.

"Occupied!" she shouted.

"Ah c'mon Kagome. Can't I just brush my teeth real quick?" the voice of her little brother Souta whined.

"Nope, snooze ya lose." Kagome said tauntingly.

"GET UP YOU LAZY BASTARD!" a voice yelled.

A pillow hit a sleeping boy in the face. He let out a low growl before opening his golden eyes.

"Inuyasha... I'm giving you till the count of 3 to get out of my room." He said calmly without turning to face his younger half brother.

"Hey, don't blame me. Pops wanted you up." The boy Inuyasha said before sticking his hands in his pocket, an amused grin on his face.

"I don't care who put you up to it. Just get out of my room." The boy said, his temper rising.

"Awww, is Sesshomaru a little grumpy this morning?" Inuyasha taunted, his amber eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Inuyasha, it is too early to be testing my patience. I won't hesitate to rip your throat out. Now leave." Sesshomaru said and sat up.

Realizing that his brother was serious, Inuyasha let out a 'Keh' before leaving.

Sesshomaru let out a tired sigh and ran a clawed hand through his long silver hair. Today was the first day of school. It was also his last, first day of high school, for he was going into his senior year. He stood up and walked over to his closet where he grabbed some clothes before heading into his bathroom.

"Hey mom, I'm going now! I'll see you after school!" Kagome shouted as she ran down the stairs.

"Alright dear. Be safe." Her mom said from the kitchen.

Kagome quickly put on her shoes before running out of the door. Seeing as she lived only a block away from school, she walked. She took in a deep breath and looked around at her family's shrine. Over to her left was the Sacred Tree. Her grandfather told her stories about the tree, and how it protected the Higurashi family for generations. Kagome rolled her eyes... it was just a tree. She glanced to her right where the shrine house was. Inside of its walls was a hidden well. The well was said to have magical powers, so says her grandfather; but in all of Kagome's 16 years, she had never experienced its 'magic'. She shook her head and started walking towards the many steps that led down to the road.

She hummed a tune as the minutes past by and soon her school appeared. She could see students meeting and greeting after not seeing each other for the summer. A flash of silver hair caught her attention and she ran towards it.

"Inuyasha!" she shouted.

Inuyasha turned around and smiled.

"Hey Kagome." He said and gave her a hug.

"Haven't seen you in a while. How was your trip to America?" she asked as the two continued to walk.

"Ah, it was alright. If you don't count Sesshomaru being an ass the whole time." Inuyasha grumbled and looked over at his brother who was walking towards the school.

Kagome sneaked a glance at the older of the two brothers. His face held no emotion and he seemed bored with his surroundings. His cold eyes gazed around him and finally settled on Kagome. She let out a small gasp and looked away. She had been caught staring.

"Did you say something?" Inuyasha asked.

"Umm, no." Kagome said and smiled.

She had known Inuyasha (and Sesshomaru) since she was in diapers. Her parents were friends with their parents since high school. But about 6 years ago, Kagome's father and Inuyasha's mother had gotten into a car accident and passed away. Kagome's father had gone to pick up Inuyasha's mother when his father had been away on business. Her car had broken down on her way home. A drunk driver had run a red light and hit them from the side.

They had been there for each other in their loss. Sesshomaru had been less effected by the death seeing as it was his step-mother. Sesshomaru's mother had passed away from illness when he was only a year old and he had no memories of her. His father had quickly fallen in love with Inuyasha's mother within a year and the result was Inuyasha. Sesshomaru had never taken a liking to Inuyasha, and vise versa.

The two fought constantly. Sesshomaru disliked Inuyasha for being a half-demon... the result of a rushed affair. Inuyasha disliked Sesshomaru for the way the elder demon treated him. Even though the two had the same father, they were nothing a like.

Inuyasha was more care free and boyish. He didn't take many things seriously, school included. He liked to joke around and have fun. He was well built, but held a more juvenile appearance to him. The most interesting thing about his appearance, was his ears. They resembled a dogs more so then a human. While Inuyasha hated them, Kagome found them rather cute.

Sesshomaru on the other hand, was far more handsome (in Kagome's opinion). Four magenta stripes highlighted his perfect cheek bones. He was also taller and more built. He was more serious, and hardly ever smiled. His face always held a bored, calm expression. Sesshomaru carried a certain elegance and grace. Everything he did seemed perfect. The way he walked, and talked.

"Hey, Kagome... Inuyasha!" a voice said and pulled Kagome from her thoughts.

The pair turned around to see a guy and a girl walking towards them waving.

"Sango! Miroku!" Kagome squealed and gave them each a hug.

Miroku, the well built boy with short black hair and violet eyes that always held a mischievous glint to them, and Sango, the tall, slim girl with long brown hair that always seemed to be pulled up in a pony tail were Inuyasha and Kagome's two other friends.

Miroku was known around school as a 'ladies man' and his hand always seemed to be roaming down south much to the unlucky girl's dismay. But if he got too out of hand, Sango was always there to knock some sense into him... literally. With her short temper, and jealousy, she could bitch slap the hell out of Miroku if his hands wandered too much.

Even though neither of the two had voiced it, Kagome knew for a fact that they both liked each other.

"It's good to be back in school. Look at all the lovely ladies." Miroku said wiggling his eyebrows as he looked around.

Sango shot him a death glare before brushing past him to walk beside Kagome.

"That pervert will never change!" Sango said angrily.

"That may be true, but I know the only girl he really likes is you." Kagome said slyly.

"Yeah right." Sango scoffed and turned away blushing slightly.

"Junior schedules over here!" a voice shouted.

"Hey, let's go see what classes we have." Kagome said and dragged Sango over to a student who was standing behind a table.

"Higurashi Kagome and Tanaka Sango please." Kagome said to the girl.

The girl smiled at Kagome before going through a list of folders and pulled out the ones with their names on them.

"Here you go." She said.

"Thanks." Kagome said and walked off to the side with Sango to let Inuyasha and Miroku through.

"Ikeda Inuyasha and Nakano Miroku." Inuyasha said to the girl.

"Hmm. First period is Physics. Second period is English. Ugh, we have that class with the seniors. A lunch, then Algebra 2 and finally P.E." Kagome said and looked up from her schedule. "What about you Sango?"

"Physics, Algebra 2, A lunch, English and P.E." she said.

"2 outta 4 isn't so bad." Kagome said, "What about you guys?"

Inuyasha and Miroku wandered over to where the girls were standing.

"Looks like we'll be in all the same classes Kagome." Inuyasha smirked and casually draped his arm across her shoulders.

Miroku peered over Sango's shoulder to inspect her schedule.

"Sango my love, you are in all of my classes! This is going to a fun year." Miroku said and went to cop a feel of Sango's rear end.

"Don't even try it you lecher." Sango said and quickly swatted his hand away.

"What ever are you talking about Sango? I was merely going to take a piece of lint off." Miroku said in a honey coated voice.

"Yeah... right." Sango said and walked off grumbling under her breath about 'perverted Miroku and his wandering hands'.

The group then got their locker numbers and combinations and quickly put their books away before the bell rang, signaling them to start making their way to their first classes.
