Shadows of The Past by Sesshoumaru-Sama

In The Darkness

Author's Note:

Alrighty the first chapter is short I know, but deal with it for the time being until I can think of a way to expand it and the chapters that follow. Also, The view point of the story will change from character to character but you'll know when they do.

He sat watching the group of humans and the Hanyou with the little kitsune kit sit around the fire and eat what seemed to be food from a far off place. How he ended up with them all was odd really, he had never figured that he would find himself traveling with a bunch of humans and his little hanyou of a brother inuyasha.What seemed more odd was the fact that he felt a strong youkai aura...constantly nearby, yet it had not attacked, Inuyasha and his "group" hadn't sensed it and it didn't reak of Naraku... So who or what was it? and Why was it watching them?. It was quickly getting on Sesshoumaru's nerves, though his outer shell didn't show it, That he was constantly being watched. Only for a few hours during the day did it seem to disappear, but at night it felt more powerful. Perhaps the time it disappeared was time that it slept? Sesshoumaru was suddenly interupted from his thoughts by the voice of the Miko, kagome he believed her to be called.

" Um... Sesshoumaru-Sama.. Do you want some?" Kagome sat before him, one of the foreign foods clasped in her hands in offering to him.

"I Do not eat mortal food.." was his only response as he turned his head away, returning to ignoring the group. Inuyasha was going on with his pathetic insults towards Sesshoumaru and the Kagome, words Sesshoumaru himself had often used being said towards the two of them, When another aura was detected, heading quickly from the sky towards the small group.

" Kagome look out!" Inuyasha yelled when the youkai had finally appeared, rapidly swooping down at Kagome, its large claws gleaming in the firelight. It was a large Bat youkai, its wingspan that of atleast six feet. It released a loud screech as it grew closer to Kagome, only to stop dead in it's tracks, No one had attacked it yet, though Inuyasha was in mid swing with his fathers fang.

Sesshoumaru Glared up at the thing as all the others stared in shock, it was as though it had been frozen in mid air by something unseen. Kagome edged warily closer to Sesshoumaru, sitting beside him as she stared up at it. Its claws had been aimed for her shoulders it seemed, like it was going to pick her up and kill her later. As everyone looked at the large bat that floated in mid air, None but Sesshoumaru noticed that the aura he had been detecting for the last while had become stronger, and closer. As he got up, he backhanded the Bat, it flew as he knew it would out of the air to land on the ground, coming to life again and fluttering off.

"Enough of this." With a flick of his wrist his whip of light lashed out from his claws, aimed at the line of trees of which the aura resided. Everyone watched in confusion at the scene taking place before them, What did Sesshoumaru see? Much to Sesshoumaru's surprise, his whip was countered with a black whip of shadows, the two streams tangling around each other and cancelling each others effects. Sesshoumaru's eyes held a tint of shock to them, as he felt the aura disappear...It was leaving.

" Sesshoumaru! What was that!" Miroku, the Houshi, piped up, the group moving to sit near him as he too returned to the ground. He didn't respond for a moment, a small look of shock apparent on his face. He murmured softly only one word, leaving the group even more confused.

"Shadow.."
