Starry Pants
Kagome fumed as she stomped back towards the hot springs that she and Sango had just come from. She had just had a nice bath and changed into her star-covered pyjamas, and she and Sango had been walking back to the group's campsite when she saw the chaos that their leaving had ensued.
Before they had left for the hot springs, Kagome had taught Miroku how to make Instant Ramen, thinking that maybe then she'd have to make it less often. Inuyasha had been nowhere in sight, since he had gone off to sulk the last time Kagome had scolded him for hitting Shippo. Shippo had been cheerily playing with his little toys on Inuyasha's vacant tree branch, obviously happy that Inuyasha had been told off.
However, the tranquility that they had left before had disappeared, all because a certain hanyou had returned.
Kagome let out an exasperated sigh as she remembered the scene that had laid out before them as a greeting; Inuyasha was beating on Shippo, trying to steal the Instant Ramen that Miroku had prepared for him, and Miroku had obviously tried to stop Inuyasha, because he was now passed out on the ground with a bump on his head. Sango had run to Miroku, leaving Kagome to sort out the commotion between Inuyasha and Shippo.
"Sit!" she had yelled as she ran up to get a better view of what had been going on up in the tree, but she had found out soon enough that maybe she should have kept her distance; Inuyasha had come crashing down, as was expected, but he still had the Ramen, and it splashed up from his hands and splattered across Kagome's lap, staining her pyjama pants.
Inuyasha had split as soon as he could lift his head, knowing that Kagome would not be happy with him for causing such mischief.
And he was right, she would have beat him senseless if it weren't for the burning sensation on her lap and the sound of Shippo's wails.
So, she had tended to Shippo and then stormed off, back to the hot springs to wash he pyjama pants. Sango hadn't even tried to stop her, knowing that Kagome's temper had risen up to her forehead.
Kagome balled her hands into fists as she tried to calm herself, but she just kept thinking of Inuyasha and his childish antics. That demented moron! Can't he act his age just once? She flinched as another voice began speaking to her, in her mind; He acts his age with Kikyou.
She shook the thought from her mind, instead becoming very transfixed with her feet as she walked. She suddenly realized that she was at the hot spring, so she pulled her pants off slowly, looking up at the darkening sky.
"Oh, I hope this doesn't take long..." she muttered to herself as she dunked her pants into the hot spring, attempting to wash them.
She lifted her head slightly, sensing something coming. Her senses were corrected as she heard the rustle of leaves behind her; something was already there.
She whipped around, expecting to come face to face with Inuyasha, only to find that it was Sesshoumaru that stared down at her. She stood up slowly, refusing to let her fear show. What does he want? I didn't do anything!
Sesshoumaru looked down at Kagome's panties and made a face that clearly showed his dislike. He looked up at Kagome's face again and Kagome raised an eyebrow, wondering what he was thinking.
"Human," he grunted, "You do realize that you aren't wearing pants...?"
Kagome looked as though she was about to burst out laughing. "Um... yeah, I knew. I'm washing them, see?" She bent down and reached into the hot spring to fish out her pants. She held them up, dripping, in front of Sesshoumaru and he looked even more disgusted.
"I see." He said coolly, and Kagome looked at him strangely.
"Don't you ever wash your clothes?" she glanced down at his clothes with her nose scrunched up. Sesshoumaru looked at her as if she truly were an idiot.
"No." he looked to see her disgusted reaction before continuing. "If my clothes get dirty, I throw them out and get new ones."
Kagome stared at him for a moment before looking down at her pyjamas and then looking back at Sesshoumaru's clothes. "So you sleep in those then?"
Sesshoumaru sat down on a nearby rock before looking back at Kagome and nodding.
"Aren't they uncomfortable?"
"They can't be any less comfortable than the rags you're wearing." He replied coolly, and Kagome's face brightened up as she struck a pose.
"You've never worn pyjamas though! They're specially made for sleeping in. I think you'd like them." She blushed as she saw Sesshoumaru give a lopsided grin at Kagome's idiotic posture. I must really look stupid for him to have smiled... she thought to herself, and she couldn't help but grin also.
"So... Where is one to find these pyjamas then?"
Kagome nearly fell over. He's actually interested? She smiled widely. "Only in my time. Though, if you can get specially made clothes for you whenever you want, you could probably just get some made."
Sesshoumaru nodded slowly, looking up at the moon, which had now risen. Kagome took this time to look back down at her pyjama pants. She sighed, throwing them into the bush. Sesshoumaru looked at her questioningly.
"They're ruined now. Inuyasha spilled Ramen on them." She shrugged. "Oh well."
Sesshoumaru looked towards the place where she had thrown her pyjama pants before lifting his head up into the air and standing up.
Kagome turned around to follow his gaze, but found nothing. She turned back to him and he looked at her plainly. "My half-brother is coming to look for you." He turned and walked back in the direction he had come from, and Kagome smiled as he walked away.
"Come see me tomorrow night!" she called after him, and hoped he had heard, though he gave no reaction as he kept walking, until she could see him no longer. Kagome gazed after him for a while before she felt Inuyasha yank on her shoulder, forcing her to look at him.
He looked over her shoulder to see what she was looking at, but saw nobody, so he turned to look at Kagome again, with his eyebrow raised.
Kagome rolled her eyes. "Aren't you even going to apologize? I have no pants to wear because you ruined those ones!"
Inuyasha's gaze travelled down until he was looking at Kagome's panties and Kagome blushed before slapping him.
"Sit!"
Inuyasha yelped as he hit the ground, and Kagome stomped off towards the Bone Eater's well; she knew it wasn't that far off.
~~
She had spent the night in her time, as well as part of the weekend. Inuyasha had sat in a tree and sulked even when she had returned, because she refused to tell any of them why she had taken so long to come back.
Kagome sat underneath a tree beside Kaede's hut, with Shippo asleep in her lap. She didn't know where Inuyasha had gone off too, but for once, she wasn't thinking about where he was, or about how she could be back in her time, or anything else that she usually found herself thinking on days like this, when the group just decided to have a lazy day. Instead, she found herself thinking of the extra pair of pyjamas she had in her backpack... The pair that weren't for her, but for a certain man she thought needed them a little more than she did.
~~
The group hadn't moved since the time when Kagome had gone back home for fear of her not being able to find them again, so that night they used the same campsite again, deciding (much to Inuyasha's displeasure) that they would just leave that morning.
"Okay, well I'm going to go have a bath then." Kagome said rather cheerily, and she probably would have been questioned about her overflowing happiness had Inuyasha not butted in.
"Didn't you just have a bath last time you were here? Couldn't you do that back in your own time?" he growled bluntly, leaping up into his tree, only to be yanked back down with Kagome's next words.
"Sit boy."
And so Inuyasha crashed to the ground while Kagome grabbed some things from her bag and ran off towards the hot spring before anyone else could say anything.
When she was a fair enough distance away she slowed her pace and looked down at what she had brought with her; her pyjama top, a large white t-shirt, and a pair of plaid maroon boxers. She grinned to herself as she pictured one of Sesshoumaru's disgusted looks as he saw the pyjamas she had brought for him.
Maybe I should have brought something a little less... skimpy... She made a face. But then again, she thought to herself, I guess I probably did that on purpose, now didn't I?
As she came to the hot spring, she looked around to make sure nobody was there before taking off her clothes and getting in, washing herself quickly, just so that it had appeared to Inuyasha and the others that she had actually had a bath, before putting her panties and pyjama shirt back on. She looked down at her legs and felt a hot rush of anger sweep through her as she envisioned Inuyasha spilling the Ramen on her lap again. She let out a low growl by accident.
"Is something the matter?"
Kagome nearly jumped out of her skin as she turned around to see Sesshoumaru sitting on the same rock that he had been sitting on the night before.
"How long have you been here?" she demanded, feeling her cheeks turn red.
"Long enough." He replied coolly, before reaching one hand into his robes and pulling out something that was wrapped in plain white cloth. He handed it to Kagome. "Here."
Kagome took it and stared at Sesshoumaru blankly for a moment before her face lit up and she picked up the t-shirt and boxers and handed them to Sesshoumaru. He took them hesitantly and Kagome watched his reaction as he looked at the outfit.
"What... are these?" he asked dully, looking at her as if were crazy.
"Pyjamas!" Kagome giggled. "I want to prove to you that they're comfortable, so I went out and got you some." She watched him fold the clothes up and put them in his robes, where her gift had been.
"Thank you then." He said plainly, his face still blank and dull. It was silent for a moment before he spoke again. "Aren't you going to open that then, human?"
Kagome started and then looked down at the small package before bowing her head a little as thanks and then unfolding the cloth from around the object, revealing her pyjama pants--good as new.
"But how...?" she looked at him and saw that he was grinning a little at her awed expression. "I thought my pyjama pants were ruined!"
"They were. So I got new ones made." He said, and Kagome blushed and smiled.
"Thank you." She put them on, glad to have something covering her while in front of the demon lord.
Sesshoumaru stood up, looking up at the moon again. Kagome followed his gaze.
"It's late, and I must leave now." Sesshoumaru stated, turning and walking down the path he had left from last time.
Kagome watched him leave for a minute before running after him and grabbing onto his arm. He looked at her, for once without disgust in his eyes, but confusion, and she blushed again at his questioning gaze.
"Um..." she started meekly, before looking up at him, "Promise me you'll wear those?"
Sesshoumaru looked back at her for a moment and time seemed to stand still before he nodded slowly, pulling his arm away from Kagome and walking down the path until she could see him no longer.
~~
"I thought you said I ruined your pyjama pants!" Inuyasha followed Kagome as she calmly walked back towards the others, who were waiting for her and watching to see if Inuyasha would push too far again.
Kagome turned back to look at Inuyasha and he winced, bracing himself for a sit command. Kagome grinned inwardly at his reaction and found that she was abnormally happy... Too happy to cause trouble.
"Inuyasha... I was wrong. The stain came out, that's why it took so long for me to come home. I washed my pants, that's all. I'm sorry for thinking that you ruined my pants." It sounded silly, but she watched Inuyasha's eyes light up and he crossed his arms smugly.
"Heh. Yeah, you should be sorry." He gloated, and Kagome smiled a little and walked over to the rest of the group, sitting down under the tree to sleep.
"Kagome, I didn't know your pyjama pants had moons on them too." Shippo said, leaping up on her lap and observing the patterns on her pants. "I knew they were starry, but I never noticed the moons."
Kagome looked down at the small purple moons that decorated her pyjama pants and she smiled widely, recognizing them at Sesshoumaru's sign.
"Yeah, that's what I like about these pants." She said sleepily. "The moons..."
Kagome fell asleep first, leaving the rest of the group nothing really to do but fall asleep, so one by one, they joined her in slumber. They dreamed of what they would do tomorrow, unaware that Kagome's dreams were filled with what she had done yesterday.
