"Smorach kniunik iaronsina!" she screamed again as she continued to flee for her life. A flowing jet of purple lined silver flames shot from her outstretched fingers, toward the giant beast that pursued her. The demon faltered slightly before continuing its pursuit. She didn't look back again, but she could hear its many legs scurrying to catch her. That last blast had taken off only one of the four arms of which the centipede demon possessed.
"Guardian of the Shikon, give up your futile flight," it hissed, "you can't possibly keep flying for much longer. Your horrible wings have been broken at last. Give me the jewel and I might even make your death a quick one."
"Never!" Kagome choked as she pumped her wings furiously in an attempt to move faster, "you'll never get you hideous hands on it, you wretch!"
"Such fowl language coming from a dweller of the sky," said the demon as it drew ever closer, "I guess I shall have to spill yet more of your blood."
"Smorach kniunik laronsina blorek!" she screamed. She began to glow a pale pink. The demon managed to take one final blow to her black, blood stained wings before it was destroyed by the marvelous pink light that contrasted so deeply with her midnight tresses and deep blue eyes. The demon turned to dust and Kagome collapsed ever gracefully to the ground. Black feathers fell around her lightly, as if to create a wondrous pattern around her fallen form. Her eyes began to go hazy. She was loosing sight of the forest. She saw a tall figure clad in white, then nothing more as the blissfulness of the darkness consumed her.
He flew easily through the trees of his land at a speed unmatched. His long silver hair flowing gracefully behind him, he patrolled his lands. The forest was dead silent as his cold, emotionless eyes scanned the area and his feet made no noise as they patted quickly across the leaf covered ground. All too suddenly, he heard a scream, a woman's scream; ad was met with the potent smell of blood. He made for the direction of the scream. Something about the blood he smelled. It wasn't human, but then, it wasn't that of a demon's either. He soon found the woman that had screamed. She was being chased by a demon.
"Smorach kniunik iaronsin!" he heard her cry. Her voice was harsh with overuse, and her words were strange to him. Because he wished to remain unseen for the time being, he couldn't get a clear look at her, but something about the way she moved didn't seem right. She seemed to be flying, not running, and her speed was remarkable. But she looked human. How could that be? He heard the demon say something about the Shikon, but paid it little attention until it mentioned the Sky Dwellers. He decided he had seen enough. He wanted to ask this human-like thing a few questions before it died. He was about to jump out and slay the offending demon, but before he could, he heard the girl scream out something again. His eyes widened as the girl began to glow a pale pink. At first he had thought that his eyes had betrayed him, but they had not. He watched the demon take a swipe at the woman's magnificent black wings as it disintegrated into nothingness. He stepped foreword as she fell to the ground. Now, for the first time, he got a good look at her. He felt his breath hitch in his throat. Even if she didn't have wings, he knew she couldn't be human. She was too beautiful. He stood there for a moment, drinking her in with his deep golden eyes. Her wings were broken, but they still looked graceful. They were of the darkest of blacks, second only to the darkness of her hair. Her hair looked smooth and soft. He longed to touch it, but he refrained. Her hair appeared to stop at her waist. He couldn't see her eyes, for her lids were closed, though he imagined them to be just as beautiful as her other features. She had the face the likes of which he had never seen. 'A goddess would be jealous,' he thought. She had dark eyelashes, like her hair. Her skin was pale though. This made for a lovely contrast against her hair and wings. Her nose was small and shapely. Her lips, though, her lips were what took most of his attention. They were full and plump. They were a deep, rich red in color. They shamed the loveliest of roses. She wore clothing of a simple design, but elegant none the less; a long white robe that outlined her every curve. It had a waterfall neckline and no sleeves. It looked to be made of a cloth finer that the finest of silks. She wore no shoes and her feet, like her hands, were perfectly formed. They looked tiny and delicate.
"They are real," Sesshomaru mumbled quietly to himself. He picked her up and started for his castle.
Kagome awoke some time later. Sitting up slightly, she looked around her in wonder. She took in the mahogany walls and black floor. A large dark wooden wardrobe lay across the room from where she lay. The carvings on it were magnificent. Looking over at the shoji screen door, she noted the giant white dog that was painted on it. So beautiful she thought in awe. It was then that she noticed where she was laying. She was lying in a huge canopy bed. It was dark wooded, like the wardrobe. The curtains that hung from it were a lighter color mahogany. The blanket was black, with the same dog as before embroidered upon it.
"W..Where am I?" she asked in a hoarse voice. She tried to sit up more, but cried out as she felt an intense pain in her wings. Looking at them, her eyes widened. They were broken. "Oh no..." she said. It was then she noticed her feathers scattered around her.
"I see you have finally awoken," said a velvety, albeit cold voice from the shadows. A tall man walked towards her. He had silver hair that cascaded freely down to his shins, and a pale complexion. On his face were strange markings. Two maroon stripes graced each cheek, and a navy blue crescent moon was on his forehead. More maroon was on his upper lids which surrounded golden eyes. He wore white.
"My lord," Kagome said, noting the sign of the Demon Lords of the West upon his forehead, "Was it you who saved me?"
"Yes," he said simply.
Not one for talking, Kagome thought dismally before saying, "I thank you." She bowed as much as she was able.
"Why was that demon chasing you?" Sesshomaru asked. He wanted to know her name to, but that would make it seem like he cared for her, which he didn't.
"Because I am the Guardian of the Shikon No Tama," she said after a moments hesitation, "And because I am one of the outcast."
