The Wish
It was a bright, beautiful day the day that Kagome made the wish. She had deliberated for some time over how she could use the jewel to help everyone and had finally come to a decision the night before. Now, with all her friends gathered near her, she felt a nervousness that she could not quite account for. Kikyou stared at her with hard, cold eyes, not quite believing that this woman-child could possibly use the jewel, and even less so that she would make a worthwhile wish. Sesshoumaru observed from a distance, waiting to see just what would happen as the young miko placed the completed jewel between her small palms and concentrated.
Her knees started to tremble with the effort, and sweat beaded behind her ears and slicked her palms. Still she concentrated on drawing her power to it's fullest, and finally, finally, when she felt her power reach it's peak, she whispered only just too quietly for either of the dog demons to hear. A sudden feeling of peace washed over all present, and there was a bright flash of light, the sound of a roaring ocean filling their hearts and minds, and then a bright blue ball of light hurtling from Kagome's chest as she rolled her eyes to the heavens and tried to gasp air.
And then the light was gone, the clearing quiet, and Kagome lay on the ground, unmoving, fingers grasping air.
