I lay here in my sleeping bag across from you glaring at your supposedly sleeping face. All that keeps me here in this clearing with you is my friends and the god's thrice be-damned cursed jewel shards I wear around my neck. I watch even as you crack an eye open and glance around to make sure that we are all asleep before leaving. 'He's off to see the undead clay pot, humph.'

Sitting up I glance around and gasp upon seeing a white clothed figure picking his way around my companions toward me, "Sesshoumaru!" I exclaimed quietly, "why are you here?"

"Sleep miko. I will be taking over the care of your pack since my brother will not do so." With that Sesshoumaru sat down gracefully beside my hip and folded his arm over his bent knees.

Watching the demon warily I settled down into my sleeping bag and simply watched him for a while before letting my eyes close and my mind to go blank.

(Next Morning)

The next morning everyone in the clearing was ruddly awakened by, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?"

"Your job obviously." Came the silk smooth reply of Sesshoumaru.

"LIKE HELL YOU ARE!" Screamed Inuyasha brandishing his sword wildly without a care as to the fact that he might hit one of the other occupants of the clearing.

"Inuyasha," I took a deep breath signaling that I was about to get even louder then him, "sit! Why do you care anyway? If you were a good leader then you wouldn't abandon us every night for Kikyou and we wouldn't be having this conversation."

Inuyasha's ears went back flat against his head as he stared at me as if he had never seen me before, "Well Lady Kagome does have a point. Is this the reason you are always so tired during the day as well lately?" I nodded yes in reply.

"You know Inuyasha if you are going to pretend to be the alpha of our pack then you should be the one looking after our safety. As far as I am concerned Kagome is the alpha and you aren't even her second." Spoke Shippo from my shoulder as he finger combed my hair before braiding it.

Sango, who had been lounging until now, spoke, "I don't regret saying this one bit, but Shippu is right. Kagome makes sure that we eat, that we are healed when hurt, and protects us at night when we rest at the cost of her own. So yes at this moment Kagome is our alpha and if she chooses to hand that position to Sesshoumaru I will trust her to know what she is doing."

(Sesshoumaru's POV)

'So I was right; the miko was forced to become the alpha. Something she is not sure what to do with, but has done a better job of doing then Inuyasha.' I thought while watching the packs interations.

Kagome, the miko had a thoughtful look on her face. "Will you let me go home to my time for a few days every two to three weeks?" I nodded. "Very well then welcome to the pack." With those words Kagome bowed her head to me followed by the rest of her companions except for Inuyasha.

"How could you let him take over as alpha?! He has tried to kill all of you." My moronic half brother yelled waving his arms frantically.

"Inuyasha, he has not truly tried to kill us unless we got in his way of attacking you." Miroku replied with a smirk. "So I would have to say get over yourself," this was a phrase he had heard Kagome say one time and it seemed to apply to this situation, "and welcome our new pack alpha male."
