Kagome's eyes snapped open.  'What was that?'  It was the most strange dream she had to date and to top it off, she was currently dozing at a small table in the caterer's shop.  Stretching her stiff neck, Kagome blinked trying to clear her fog-laden brain.

The engagement had resumed or, according to Sesshoumaru, had continued; leaving her responsible for all the planning.  Which was not really true because in typical Sesshoumaru fashion the infuriating man would come and give out decrees that he expected to be followed.  The lasted was that since there would be business associates attending, and said business associates were from England, the menu now had to include items that would be recognizable to them.

How had she ever fallen for such an egotistical jerk?  Oh, that was right.  Said egotistical jerk would move heaven and hell to make happy or even just smile.  Stupid orange flavored candies of peace.  Oh, the candy corns had seemed to be her friends but in reality, they were the reason she was sitting here.  The reason that she had to deal with this uncomfortable chair, her stomach felt like it was going to explode, and having dreams of going to high school with Sesshoumaru and outing him to the entire school.

Really, where did her subconscious ever come up with the idea a accusing the man of being gay?  Sure, he was a rather pristine male, but one could not even go as far to call him metro-sexual.  And a musical?  When was the last time she had heard any songs from a musical?  If this wedding did not hurry up and finish itself, Kagome was very tempted to just tell Sesshoumaru that they were not going to be married.  Instead, she would live in scandal with him, baring him many love children.

The more Kagome thought of the idea the more she realized the advantages to it.  If she was only his mistress then she would never be expected to play perfect hostess or attend the many business functions that all wives had to endure.

This was the thought that went through her mind as she stared at the pure white cake.  Why was white the color of purity?  It contained all the other colors within it, so wouldn't that by definition make it not pure.  White could not claim to be purely anything.

Kagome's mind continued on such inane endeavors as this while she continued to sample possible appetizers until she was blue in the face.  Finally, her sentence in pastry purgatory had come to an end.  Thanking the owner and workers, Kagome took her final list of all the food that would served at the reception as she went to meet with the man of her life.

Traffic had been much worse than she would have thought for this time of day, but she had arrived at his office building.  The daunting tower of steel and glass resembled its owner not only its formidable stance but the coloring reminded her so much of Sesshoumaru's world of grays and blues.  The irony that she now found warmth and serenity in the cool chill of those colors was not lost on her.

Topaz eyes blinked once, then twice.  That was the only reaction that met the statement that had just flown out his fiancé's mouth.  This had to be similar to the misunderstanding of when she had thought that the engagement was called off.  How could someone so intelligent be capable of such stupidity?

Deciding that he would not ascertain any sort of logical answer to that question, the best course of action was to ignore the statement just issued from the woman's petal soft lips.  There was work to be done.

"Sesshoumaru, did you hear me?"

Ignoring her would work.

"I am not going anywhere."

Damn.

"Kagome..."  That was as far as he got.  Was he really going to discuss the merits of why white was viewed as the color of purity?  Looking back into the heart-shaped face of his woman, he tried to figure out what exactly she was getting at.

Sesshoumaru had come to realize that in his absence for those two years Kagome had learned subterfuge.  Something was wrong and it had nothing to do with the meaning given to the color white.  He sat back in his chair doing what he did best, observing.

She was pale.  Dark circles made her eyes look sunken in, and her eyes were slightly glassy.  What had happened that caused her lose so much of her natural fire?

"What is wrong, Kagome?"

There was the crux of her problem.  She did not know what was wrong; all she knew was that something was wrong.  The color of the world seemed to fade in the months since his return.  However, she knew it was not he that was the cause of the dimming.  Her shoulders fell slightly, and all thought on the evils of white were forgotten.

"I don't know," came the whispered admission.

Still no worry showed on his face.  His rising anxiety was expressed through his limbs as he stood and walked to stand directly in front of her.  She was not looking at him.

'The floor is white.'  Random thoughts were not helping either one of them solve her problem.

"I don't want..." a timid voice was all she could manage.  "I don't want to do this on my own."

Sesshoumaru was perplexed by her meek stature and her statement.  What was it that she felt she was all alone in?  He had not been the most active in planning their wedding simply because he wanted her to have anything she wanted.  He did not want to overrun her with his own opinions.

"What of your friends?  Are they not helping you?"

That caused her to look up.  How could such an intelligent man be so dense?  "Sesshoumaru... No, they haven't.  I got tired of their veiled comments about how I was being foolish accepting you back.  Their opinion is that you left before without warning, so what is to stop you from doing it again.  In fact, that is what my family has been echoing as well.  I am tired of fighting them and you not being involved in the planning is only making them believe that they are right in their judgment of you.

"I never wanted a big fancy wedding.  The fancy white dress has never been my childhood fantasy.  I love you.  All I want is to spend the rest of my life with you and do not care if we are married or not.  I want to be with you."  Kagome could feel the tears sting the back of her eyes as she willed them not to fall.

This was not a moment for words, or small peace offerings.  The silence seemed to stretch on forever until Sesshoumaru drew the small woman close to him.  In a move of grace, Sesshoumaru had captured his love's petal lips with his own.  The passion that he found only in Kagome's arms poured into the kiss.  The normally reticent man allowed his lips to silently express depth of his need, passion, and love for her.

When they broke, both were panting.  As expected, Sesshoumaru was the first to recover.  He stared at the woman he would give the stars to if asked, she would no longer face this alone.  A quick nod of his head confirmed his decision.  It was time to solve her other problem.

"If white is such a troublesome color, then wear something blue."

The smiles that adorned both their faces reassured them that things would be right.  They would be together.
