Sesshomaru lifts the ceremonial cup, taking a sip before he passes it onto Kagome. 

As she lifts the cup to her own lips, Sesshomaru's eyes dance. "It is a merry occasion, is it not?"

Kagome recalls then the moment that had led right to marriage here and now with Sesshomaru.

"I wish you a merry—" she'd begun last December, not wanting to leave Sesshomaru out of the festivities. Ever since she'd  bumped into him again while vacationing in the United States, she'd found in him a friend.

"I accept." He lifted his chin. "I will marry you."

"No, that's not what I—" She stops short. "You'd marry me?"

"Is that not what I said, miko?"

She has no regrets, but it makes for an amusing story. "It is," she agrees with a smile of her own.

For her ear alone, he says then, "I was well aware you were not offering marriage to me then, wife. I would not allow the chance to slip through my fingers, however."

Smugly, she replies, "I know."
