Sesshomaru is allergic to cinnamon.

He sneezes and hacks the moment the spice reaches his nose as his eyes begin to water. It's an undignified look for a daiyokai—a fact he's certain to remind his mate of in between coughs as he tries and fails to clear his throat and nose of the terrible odor.

Before Kagome can even take a sip of her own cup, Sesshomaru grabs hers and proceeds to pour both of them out. "Hey! Sesshomaru—"

"It is poison." He lifts his chin as he melts the cups in his claws. "Do not worry, mate. You are safe now."

"What?" She gives her mate a blank look, too stunned to fully process what had just happened.

"This drink." He gestures towards the melting pile of acid, but the effect is ruined by the tears leaking from his eyes. "It is poison."

"It's just coffee with some cinnamon and sugar," she says, put out. She'd had to do a lot to get the Dutch traders to part with a small bag of the coffee, along with some spices she missed from her own time. "I think it's really nice."

"You did not drink it," he informs her haughtily. "How fortunate for you that my senses are so superior I recognized the threat to us both."

Kagome purses her lips, choosing not to inform her mate that there's more coffee and spices in their home. She worked too hard to let him throw it all away. "It's not poison, Sesshomaru. I think you're just allergic," she says finally, taking in his appearance. 

"Foolishness. Inuyokai do not have such human frailties." He sniffs as he turns and heads back into his office where a nice cup of harmless tea awaits. "We are vastly superior."

"To everything except cinnamon, apparently," Kagome mutters, and from his answering growl, she knows he heard her.
