"What were you even thinking?" Kagome gives her mate a stern look as she helps remove his boots. "Seriously," she grumbles. "I didn't even think inuyokai could get frostbite."

"We are yokai, not immortal," he retorts with a snort. "We can be injured and killed as any other mortal being can. It is simply harder to do so."

His arrogance is a defense mechanism, she knows, and suspects he's feeling more than a little foolish for his earlier action. "You could have gotten hurt a lot worse, you know," she grouses, setting aside the boots in favor of helping warm his toes. "Just...think next time before you run out into the snow like an idiot, okay?" 

"Tell that to the infernal feline you insist is a viable companion." He makes a derisive noise as the cat in question snuggles up in Kagome's lap. "She is the one who rushed out into the snow in the first place and became lost within it."

Kagome's ire flees as she finally comprehends her mate's impulsive actions. "You went after her?" She sniffles. "You could have let me help you find her, Sesshomaru."

"I could not risk losing her in the snow. She is white and hard to see," he explains gently, "and she is not yokai. She could have perished."

That certainly explained why he hadn't bothered to dress properly before racing out into the snow. Kagome's heart melts as she moves to kiss him. "Thank you, Sesshomaru." She hadn't realized how close she came to losing them both, she thinks, gently stroking the markings on his face.

His expression softens. "You are welcome, mate." He gives a look of mock disgust to the cat. "As is she, even if she is a foolish feline."

Kagome just laughs.
