Long shadows sweep the forest floor. 

Kagome looks up at the darkening sky. She’s lost the track of time; her basket is only half full but it’s starting to get dark and she’s a fair walk away from the village.

She picks up the remaining mushrooms, fingers fumbling in her hurry, tossing them haphazardly into her basket.

Once the spot is picked clean, Kagome gets up and slings the basket over her shoulder.

The forest is quiet around her as she hurries along, her steps swift and sure. 

Until somewhere behind there’s rustling noise and the snap of a branch.
