Chapter 1

Time is an illusion.

The sound of heels clicking on the tiled floor echoed through the barren hallway at a quick pace bouncing off the bland grey walls; adding to the urgency the woman felt as she made her way further down the hall.

“Excuse me ma’am can I help you?” a voice called from a door down the hall from the woman. Stepping further out revealed the young man who called out to be wearing a uniform with a badge attached to the front.

“Yes officer. I am hear to speak to someone about a missing person,” she said her voice shaking a little bit as she moved closer to the officer she spoke to. She ran a hand through her hair nervously as she came to a stop in front of him.

“Well you’re in the right place ma’am,” He said with a soft smile before stepping to the side gesturing for her to walk through the door before him. She quickly walked by him with a thankful smile and nod and approached the desk where she saw a similarly dressed woman typing on a computer.

“Gen this lady is here to speak to someone about a missing person,” the officer called walking behind the desk and grabbing a form and pen as he spoke. He placed them on the desk and smiled to the woman with striking blue eyes. “I’m going to need you to fill these out for me ma’am. Are you here with information on someone missing or are you filing a missing persons report?”

Smiling in thanks she grabbed the pen from him and pulled the paper closer to her so she could begin filling it out. Pushing the sleeves of her sweater back she again ran her hand through her hair before sighing. “I’m filing a missing report for my daughter. She’s been gone for over a day,” she paused to collect her thoughts as she felt her throat constricting, “I-“

“For only a day?” the woman behind the desk, Gen, interrupted her face blank of emotion, giving the impression that she didn’t seem to care either way.

“Ye-Yes. She didn’t go to school yesterday morning and I still haven’t heard from her an-“ She tried to speak again her eyes glossing over in tears as she began to worry again. She stopped when Gen raised her hand.

“Unfortunately until she’s been gone for over two days there’s nothing we can do for you here.  You’ll have to wait,” with a roll of her eyes she looked away and to her computer screen effectively signaling she wasn’t going to speak anymore about the matter.

“Gen that was uncalled for. She is just concerned for her daughter,” the officer from before spoke up. “The poor child is probably lost right now she’s rightfully worried,” he looked at the woman with striking eyes and short brown hair considering her. She was a petite woman who appeared even smaller wrapped in her oversized sweater. She had few wrinkles and didn’t appear to be older then forty. The child was most likely younger then ten. He’d be worried to.

“Honestly Kazue the girl hasn’t been missing for forty-eight hours yet. We can’t do anything for her,” She snapped not looking up from her screen.

Turning from Gen he gave a small smile to the woman across from him. Gen was right that they couldn’t do anything but she didn’t have to be so rude. “I’m sorry ma’am-“

“Liz Higurashi,” She interrupted tired of being called ma’am constantly. Wrapping her sweater tighter around her she looked around the office quickly taking in the desks with stacks of paper and officers moving about.

“Ms. Higurashi,” he continued, “Officer Gen is right that we can’t do anything until tomorrow however you can leave your name, phone number and daughter’s name incase someone should come in with her or with some information about her.”

“Yes ok, I am just very worried this isn’t like her,” she bent over the paper she still had and quickly wrote her name and daughters name on it and her number to be reached at. Sliding the paper back to him she smiled in thanks and began to walk to the door before the kind officer stopped her again.

“Ms. Higurashi, how old is your daughter, Kagome? Nine, ten?” he called out as he realized that would help identify her if she came in.

Liz Higurashi turned to face the officer, “Kagome’s fifteen,” she couldn’t stop the blood rushing to her face as the officers eyes widened when he realized that she had a teenage daughter. People often thought she wouldn’t have more then a child at her age. She turned and began a fast pace to get out of the station after he nodded in silence.

Making her way out of the police station she let out a defeated sigh.

‘Where are you Kagome?’

--

An attractive couple stood under the God Tree staring into the branches peacefully. The man was quite tall standing at least a foot taller then the woman with him. The way his arm was wrapped around the woman’s waist had made her smile as she remembered being held that way before her husband passed.

“Hello welcome to the Higurashi Shrine,” she said with a smile pushing her worried thoughts of her daughter to the back of her mind as she made her way towards the couple from the stairs she had just finished climbing. A distraction would be good for right now, something to keep her busy until the night. Her eyes widened when the couple turned towards her. The woman’s face was shockingly familiar yet different all at once.

The dark colour of her hair was common but the striking blue eyes that were similar to her own were not. She had never seen anyone other then herself and her children with those colour of eyes in this area.  Her heart shaped face and soft smile were the same but the roundness of her face was gone and instead of a young teenage girl she found herself looking into the eyes of a young woman.

“Kagome? This can’t be,” she whispered in shock raising her hand then dropping it back down at her side. She ran her hand through her hair out of habit and shook her head in disbelief. “Sorry, I was thinking of my daughter and you look so similar to her,” she trialed off as she realized this couldn’t be her daughter. Turning her head to look up to the God Tree’s branches she shook her head and let out a sigh.

“Oh Mama! It is me!” The woman exclaimed softly and suddenly Ms. Higurashi found herself being pulled into a strong hug. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. The voice was familiar but how could this be her fifteen-year-old daughter? “I know it’s so confusing but I promise it’s me!” Ms. Higurashi pulled herself out of the hug and looked back into her blue eyes.

“How? You look all grown up!” She raised her hands to rest on Kagome’s face and starred in bewilderment. This made absolutely no sense.

“I promise Mama you need to sit down for this,” turning she reached out to the man beside her, “Also this is my mate, Sesshomaru” She smiled as he slid his hand into hers and stepped beside her nodding to her mother in greeting.

“Your mate? Like husband? You’re only fifteen? How? I need to sit down,” she said all at once looking between Kagome and the man she just introduced as Sesshomaru.

Kagome let out a laugh and smiled brightly at her mother and Sesshomaru, “Oh Mama let’s go in and talk! We can’t stay too long but we’ll be back to visit I promise.”

“Kagome, perhaps you should first explain to your mother where you are right now?” Sesshomaru said as he gazed at her mother. They were very similar in appearance and even her aura carried the same gentleness as Kagome’s. He gave a small smile when he saw Kagome nod at his words before taking her mothers hand and leading her away.

“You see Mama I didn’t run away I actually fell down that old well and ended up in the Fuedal Era…”

--

Water splashed on the counter spilling over from the sink as hands reached in to grab a plate and began to wash it. Looking out the large window above the sink into the back yard Ms. Higurashi smiled softly.

After returning from the police station she hadn’t know what to do. Her daughter was missing and the police told her it was too early to put up a report. She had rushed home hoping that Kagome would be back and she was- in a way.

Ms. Higurashi couldn’t believe what had happened to her daughter. Falling through time? Who would ever believe such a thing! She certainly had a hard time believing the words of her daughter, her suddenly older daughter, and her mate. She knew too much though to simply be someone trying to play a trick on her.

It was reassuring to know that she was safe and judging from the man she had met today she was taken care of. He was a quiet man but the looks he gave her daughter were full of love and she could see the happiness her daughter had for him as well. She looked forward to watching Kagome come into this woman she’d met.

She knew she wouldn’t be seeing this older Kagome and her mate again. They had come to reassure her and tell her not to worry she would be seeing her soon.

“There she is!” She exclaimed drying her hands quickly on a kitchen towel and running to the back door to greet her.

“Mama! You aren’t going to believe me!” Kagome’s youthful voice called out as she ran across the yard and into her mothers waiting arms. She had the craziest couple days it was hard to believe it was even real.

Ms. Higurashi squeezed Kagome tight and ran her hand soothing on her back. “It’s ok dear, you’re going to be ok,” she whispered softly and closed her eyes. She was thankful for the earlier visit but this girl in her arms felt more like her daughter and she was happy to have her safe in her arms again.

--

Across the yard in the trees surrounding the shrine a pair of golden eyes softened as he watched mother and daughter hugging. Beside him his mate sighed as she leaned on him for comfort.

“In this moment I had no idea where my path was going to lead me. It was hard for me to even believe what was happening,” she gazed softly into Sesshomaru’s eyes and smiled softly when she felt more then heard the gently rumble of his soothing growl.

“Hn,” he replied and squeezed her tight, “Come we should be getting home someone is surely missing you by now.”

“Oh yes, we don’t want to keep our children waiting,” she laughed as she let Sesshomaru steer her towards the steps to go down the street to their waiting car.
