Admittedly, this is not usually a genre I read, but I enjoyed every minute of this. This was a thriller, the horror deeply psychological. I think you did a fantastic job describing Kagome's palpable dread and heart-stopping fear early on the story. These were all familiar characters we know and love, but Kagome's reactions to everything around her made it difficult to relax. Her interactions with the undead, like Kaede and Rin, were absolutely chilling (no pun intended). A sense of tension and unease pervades everything that happens in the village, no matter how mundane. The atmosphere is bleak and oppressive.
I don't quite like Sessh?maru in this one, but it's okay. I do think that's what you intended. He's obsessive, a little unstable, perhaps a little mad. The romance receded into the background for me. Ultimately, the story is about two broken people who have chosen to be distracted and comforted by each other. Kagome giving birth to a y?kai child is usually cause for celebration, but I was filled with uncertainty at this event, given the context. Sessh?maru kills rather... thoughtlessly and he's immensely possessive, so it makes me think that Kagome has become a willing prisoner more than anything else; it definitely made me a little uneasy that this is a family doomed to hide away in isolation from the rest of society. Their relationship felt rather suffocating to me, so it was a very tainted, conditional kind of "happy ending." They end up together sure, yet so many "buts" chime in the back of my head. Will they become codependent? Will their own darknesses turn each other inside out? The story finishes on a hopeful yet uncertain chord.
Even the title is chosen well; it provides a meaty clue for those who are paying attention the moment they jump in. The twist is what I'd expect of any thriller or horror piece. It is not what I expected, but painful nonetheless. I'm reminded again that you are a versatile author of many talents, and you delivered chills, thrills, and feels in this one.
Mara (Chapter 10) - Mon 01 Feb 2021
Beautiful fiction!! I loved the dark elements without it going *too* dark. I love how the ending played out! I was really hoping to say a baby being born, and the two of them together
Hi (Chapter 10) - Wed 26 Aug 2020
This was an incredibly well thought out, well written story, and I highly admire your skills as an author. Thank you
oh shit! this is getting creeeeepyyyyy lol i love it though
oOOo this is super interesting!
I absolutely love this! It's so unique, and you e capture the bone-chilling horror vibe that goes so well with the initial eerie tone of the story. I stayed up reading this last night and couldn't put it down. great Job!
Shelley (Chapter 10) - Sun 15 Mar 2020
Omg was that an intense read... I am reading conversing with emotions (also great but sorry to hear your not feeling well) so in your update absence I have been checking out some of your older stuff every time I'm sad you haven't updated yet. You have an amazing talent for conveying emotion. I can't tell you how many times you have made me cry, laugh, smile, so on and so fort. If you are not a professional writer damn. If you our tell me what you write I will totally suport your art! Lol
Lauren (Chapter 10) - Sat 21 Sep 2019
What an enthralling, horrifyingly sad story. The dolls were obvious, but your twist of Kagomes family was unexpected.
i loved it. loneliness is somthing we all go through. no one likes to be alone, but we somehow end up that way. quoting from a movie i once saw-'everyting living wants to be loved, we sing, holler, and yell just hoping someone will notice us'. keep up the great writing. c'ya'
I haven't read a story so haunting and REAL in quite a while. I'm still trying to grapple with it's greatness and and cursing myself that I took so long to finally pay attention to this one.
*Bows down*
Such a strange, sad, beautiful, plot twist story. I loved it! And even more so, I love your style of writing! Especially how you describe Sesshomaru and Kags. Thank you for this <3
Angela (Chapter 5) - Sun 07 Apr 2019
So much suspense! It feels like we know so much that having five chapters left seems like a lot. At the same time it feels like we don’t know nearly enough. It is a strange paradox. Maybe I am assuming more than I realize. But st least one suspicion was confirmed in this chapter. Well, maybe two since she is starting to pity him to an extent.
It is awfully late but thankfully I have everythiby done for the day. But I will probably be up late anyway waiting to make sure my cousin makes it home safely. Flying home with a 102 fever and probable flu and spent almost all day in the airport, poor thing.
Angela (Chapter 4) - Sun 07 Apr 2019
Well this is certainly getting creepier! but the mystery of it all is very intriguing. I hope I can finish this tonight and find out the answer to everything. Hopefully no more distractions other than dishes now that dinner is done (though the grilling cheese was 100 percent worth it). So are Sango and Miroku real too then? Or maybe I should say alive?
Right one I am struggling seeing them get together. This is a pretty awful start. He is going to have to win some major sympathy points to get her to overlook anything up to this point. There has to be a super sad story coming eventually.
Angela (Chapter 3) - Sun 07 Apr 2019
Omg! I knew things would move fast with such a short story, but the abrupt revelations are still pretty shocking. I am assuming the cold people aren’t real or are dead somehow, maybe like Kikyo. But it sounds like at least Sesshomaru and Inuyasha are probably real. but who else? Anyone else? Plenty of mysteries still!
Angela (Chapter 2) - Sun 07 Apr 2019
Ok that should have definitely been creepy, but I laughed! I couldn’t help but think of the comical stories out there were Sesshomaru tries some seriously misguided things to court her, like bringing her dead animals. This is quite a different atmosphere though, but I suppose that could still be a motive? I am super curious now.
Angela (Chapter 1) - Sun 07 Apr 2019
Ok I am giving it a shot! Good to know it probably isn’t as creepy as I was afraid it would be. And it isn’t so far. Mainly just very mysterious, which I can deal with. I am just not a horror movie person.
Not too much to comment on yet. Obviously Sesshomaru was the dog, and the dog decided to make mincemeat out of her car for some reason.
AvidReader (Chapter 6) - Wed 03 Apr 2019
I loved this story! Thank you for your work!
Raelia (Chapter 10) - Sun 17 Mar 2019
