As to your question, I mean I left it vague on purpose but in my mind when I wrote it they were both still fairly young, maybe 12 or so, so perhaps everyone in the class wouldn't be boy crazy.
Or, if they're middle school age, the girls could have made one of those "pacts" not to approach their idol like you see as a trope sometimes in shoujo manga and such.
