She has accepted the decision he has made because even though she was hurt in the process, she knows that it wasn't callously done. He had to accept the terms of the alliance, the story is about their love and sacrifices on the quest to save demon-kind. Marrying the princess and tricking the emperor to sign over the kingdom to her when he dies, will ensure that he becomes king, because the princess cannot rule, she is a female. When that happens he will be in a position to change the laws and thus putting measures in place to stop the holy ones from killing his people. They will get a chance to be together again.
